Digital ruble
The digital ruble is a digital form of the Russian national currency issued by the Bank of Russia. It is equal to cash rubles and is used for payments via the Bank of Russia's platform.
Who the requirements apply to
Starting September 1, 2026, sellers and service providers must accept digital rubles if they simultaneously:
- Earned more than 120 million rubles in revenue for the previous year
- Work with a bank recognized as significant in the payment services market
- Accept payments from individuals
How the requirements will expand
Starting September 1, 2027, the requirements will extend to companies with revenue over 30 million rubles, and starting September 1, 2028 — to the remaining sellers with revenue from 20 million rubles.
Who the requirements do not apply to
Companies with total annual revenue below 20 million rubles are not required to accept digital rubles.
The requirement also does not apply:
- To individual points of sale with revenue below 5 million rubles per year, even if the company's total revenue exceeds 20 million rubles
- To points of sale without internet access
Accepting digital rubles in KVELL
